The bike performs on oceans, rivers and lakes, handling moderate chop and swell.
Check out this video showcasing the bike in choppy conditions.
*Always ride to your ability and practice caution in riskier conditions.
The bike floats on its side when stationary.
Buoyancy prevents the bike from sinking when you stop pedalling. Master the remounting technique to perform a "submerged launch" to get foiling again from deep water.
The bike boasts a top speed of 22kph (12 knots) and a cruising speed between 11 – 14 kph (6 – 9 knots).
The battery can assist the rider for approximately one hour. Riding conditions, rider input and ability have to be taken into account. Your heads-up display indicates remaining battery life.
The 70 cell lithium-ion battery pack delivers 22Ah. Each battery pack can be easily swapped out for recharging, with each recharge taking 5 hours.
*Ride duration is subject to rider weight, water conditions and level of electronic assistance the rider has selected.
The Hydrofoiler XE-1 is the most mobile personal watercraft in the market today. The bike is designed to be broken down into three parts; front foil, rear foil, and body. This enables simple storage and transportation in-car or on roof racks, and two minute assembly time before being carried to the water by hand.
Strengthened carbon fibre which is set with high performance epoxies (front and rear hydrofoils).
Aircraft grade TIG welded 6061-T6 aluminium (frame).
Vacuum formed ASA plastic (buoyancy modules).
The current prototype weighs 29kgs including battery and motor.
The final production bike weight may vary slightly depending on production componentry.
Size: 1380mm H x 2000mm W x 2200 L . But remember, the bike is modular so it’s easier to store and transport.

All riders are to wear a PFD (personal flotation device)/lifejacket and carry a communication device.
The PFD will help the rider float in the water when they’re not riding. The communication device is to contact someone on shore in the case of an emergency.
*Manta5 recommends that riders check and abide by local policies and regulations when riding.
The bike is made with ‘clean-technology’ and the motor uses biodegradable synthetic gear oil. This means riders can explore all water areas, including protected lakes and rivers that petrol-powered watercraft are denied access to.
Bikes can be serviced at Manta5 authorised service agents.
Most of the bike’s componentry is constructed from standard bicycle parts. Repairs to the battery and motor however, must be completed at Manta5 HQ in Waikato.
For best protection, Manta5 recommends that you:
Wash the bike down after every use, especially if used in saltwater. Ensure all componentry is operating smoothly and is well greased.
Keep the battery charged at a minimum of 50% when storing for long periods of time. This helps to protect the cells from damage.
*Manta5 will release step-by-step tutorial videos for complete instructions on after-use care late 2019.
Yes. Each bike comes with a comprehensive two year replacement warranty for all XE-1 components and frame. Please note that improper use of the bike may void the manufacturing warranty. If you believe there is a manufacturing flaw, please email us: firstname.lastname@example.org
Please refer to the warranty document here.
Bikes can be picked up from the Manta5 HQ or delivered to a New Zealand address. Standard New Zealand postage rates apply to New Zealand customers.
Manta5 is pushing hard to go to international markets from 2019 and will have international shipping options available then.
A minimum depth of 1 meter (3ft) to ride the bike in, is recommended. However, to perform the submerged launch to resurface this would require a minimum water depth of 2 meters (7ft).
